Firefox vs. Chrome – Which Free Browser Are You Using Today?

Two of the most used web browsers are Firefox and Chrome, which have been launched many years ago. Both of them can be installed on computers mobile devices and have pros and cons, but it’s our duty to compare their specs and features and tell you which browser has a better performance. This time, the two browsers have been tested on a laptop running on Windows 7 with an Intel Core-i5 processor, which was backed by 4GB of RAM.

Boot time
The boot time was measured with Passmark’s Apptimer software and it resulted that Chrome had an average opening time of 0.05s, being faster than Firefox with 0.02s. You might not notice the difference in real time, but our winner here is definitely Chrome.
Memory Consumption
A computer with weak specs will run slow no matter what browser you’d use. But a computer with the specs we’ve mentioned above has no problem with the memory consumption, because it has plenty RAM. So, in this test, both browsers had to open multiple websites (Facebook, YouTube, BBC News, IT Pro homepage and the Microsoft Outlook web app). It resulted that Chrome is a resource-hungry beast, eating almost 600,000kb, while Firefox ate only 412,000KB.

Browser Benchmarks
The browsers were tested with Browsermark and Peacekeeper benchmark for HTML5 rendering capabilities, while the Sunspider tests revealed how they handle Javascript. Firefox triumphed in the Peacekeeper tests, beating Chrome by around 50 percent. In the Browsermark test, Firefox scored 3946, but it was beaten by Chrome, which had a result of 4858. The Sunspider benchmarks picked Firefox as a winner, because it obtained a result of 191ms, much better than Chrome’s 240ms result.

Google Chrome is more attractive, featuring a minimalist look, uncluttered. When browsing, you are able to open lots of tabs, which are found at the top, and one of the best features is Omnibox, which combines search functions with URL.
Firefox allows you to customize its interface, but the mobile version feels cluttered and the buttons feel like they’re occupying the screen when opening a new menu.

Ads can be quite annoying and they are displayed on websites which are making money with adsense. If you don’t want to see them, you must install adblock software which are blocking these ads.
